Katie said: “The Active Sunderland programme of participation events has its emphasis very much on having a fun and healthy experience. Walking is a great way for families to have an enjoyable time and at the same time get fitter together.
“I’d encourage everyone to come along and take part in what is a fantastic event.”
Every year hundreds of people – young and old – take part in the annual walk that was first held in 2012.
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, added: “It is great to have an event such as this which gives everyone the opportunity to explore some of our best known landmarks and enjoy some fantastic scenery.
“Our routes take walkers through a number of curious and intriguing historical sites and some fantastic areas for wildlife.”
