Guests to enjoy ‘Souper’ Newcastle Business Awards

A business awards night with a difference! – That’s what organisers of the inaugural Newcastle Business Awards are promising guests.

Firstly, it looks unusual (for a business awards) with a logo that resembles a play on Andy Warhol’s ‘32 Campbell’s Soup Cans’, and secondly, the location – the awards are being held in the city’s West End, which is a far cry from the usual corporate setting and yet event organisers are still promising all of the razzmatazz, glam and glitz that you normally associate with an awards evening.

Sounds like a refreshing change……………!

With a vision of inspiring communities through enterprise the event hopes to promote the culture and practice of businesses which have worked to drive social improvement in their local communities, emphasising the regeneration already seen during the last few years in the immediate vicinity of the venue itself, The Beacon on Westgate Road. The community involvement and focus on this area of Newcastle has been something of an inspiration to the creation of the awards and has contributed to the concept of the quirky logo and marketing campaign.

The two charities behind the event, Groundwork STAN and Centre West have pledged that the awards will raise awareness and support for local charity, Newcastle West End Foodbank, one of the largest foodbanks in the country, and they are focusing the minds of all guests on the job in hand.

The ‘invitation’ to the awards dinner is simple enough – guests will be sent a peel off sticker. However, what they have to do next to get into the bash is put the sticker on a tin of food which they bring along on the night and will then be donated to the foodbank for distribution via their network.

Matt Bowmaker, Head of Events at The Beacon, and who is heading up the Newcastle Business Awards said; “Food banks are more and more of a necessity within many communities in the north east. We thought that by bringing a tin of food along as part of an invite to the event everyone would be able to contribute in a small way to supporting Newcastle West End foodbank which provides a fantastic service for many people in our local community”.

The inaugural Newcastle Business Awards takes place at The Beacon, Westgate Road, on November 26th later this year.
