Last weekend scores of Santas were put through their paces as Sunderland’s first ever set of Santa Runs took place in the city centre.
Mowbray Park played host to a swarm of Santas and their jingling little elf helpers as two fun runs took place on Sunday 7 December.
The event, which was compered by Sun FM, was part of the wider Christmas in Sunderland programme which is being delivered by Sunderland Live, Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council.
Virgin Active made sure that all festive fun runners were fully warmed up before embarking on a fun-filled course around the park. Participants in the “Family Santa Run” were asked to star jump, jog and sing their way along the course, collecting their festive treats along the way.
Santas taking part in the “Chocolate Santa Run” were invited to collect and munch their way through a series of chocolate treats whilst burning off the calories on the 1.5 mile course.
Karen Makepeace, Event Development Manager from Sunderland Live said: “It was fantastic to see all those Santas and their little helpers completing the festive challenges and really getting in to the Christmas spirit. We are already coming up with ideas for the 2015 Santa Runs”
