A full filled, action packed weekend!

 

On Friday 20 July – 7pm until 10 pm an opening event will get the weekend off to a flying start, thrilling the crowds with live music, stunning fireworks and an enchanting night flight display by the SWIP Twister Duo Display Team.

Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July – 10am until 6pm will see the coastline at Seaburn and Roker in Sunderland filled with the sights and sounds of the spectacular Sunderland International Airshow. There’s a packed programme of entertainment in the skies and on the ground, including RAF Falcons, The Red Arrows and lots more. Don’t miss the thrilling tornado GR4 role demo both days!

Organised by Sunderland City Council, the airshow is now in its 24th year and widely recognised as one of the largest free events of its kind.

Visitors to the event can expect an exciting programme of activities on the ground, as well as breathtaking precision flying and action in the sky. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a memorable day out, there promises to be something for everyone to enjoy.

Important information: The beach between outlet pipe and Parsons Rock will be closed from 8am and 6pm on both Saturday 21 July and Sunday 22 July 2012.

Sunderland International Airshow is organised by Sunderland City Council as part of the Sunderland Live programme of events and festivals.

Souvenirs

Pick up a copy top quality souvenir programme on site for £5.  Inside you will find a full programme of the action in the air and on the ground, as well as lots of great facts about all of your favourite display teams.  Copies are now on sale in The Bridges and the Tourist Information Centre in the City Library.
You can also purchase souvenir wristbands at The Bridges for £2.
Visit the ‘Official merchandise and Meet the Teams marquee’ next to the Arena on Cliffe Park where there will also be a selection of souvenirs on sale during the Airshow weekend.

Parking

Visitors are encouraged to use city centre car park facilities
Limited Park and Ride spaces will be available at :

Fulwell Quarry (near the Millers Inn, SR5 1JT) for a small charge of £5 per car

Sunderland Enterprise Park, Sunderland SR5 3XB – £1 per person return

Stadium of Light, Sunderland SR5 1SU – £1 per person return

Please note:

Downhill Community North Complex park and ride will now not be operating due to unsuitable ground conditions

No seafront parking will be available due to the unsuitable ground conditions

Disabled provision
Disabled parking is available on site at the rear of Morrisons supermarket, Whitburn Road, Sunderland. SR6 8AA

Shopmobility will be located outside of the Seaburn Centre both Saturday and Sunday between 10.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m and will provide wheelchairs at no cost.

Toilet provisions are available across the site

Deck chairs will not be available to hire at the Airshow site. Please feel free to bring your own seats along to the event

Stagecoach will be operating service 510 – a direct bus service to link Fawcett Street in the City Centre to the Seaburn Recreational Ground at the Airshow event site. A revised service will operate for the duration of Airshow event on services E1, E2, E6. Please visit www.stagecoachbus.com/sunderland for further information.

Road Closures

A road Closure will be in place from Marriott Roundabout to Bungalow Cafe’ on Friday 20 July from 2pm until 11pm

Road  closures will be in place from Morrisons Roundabout to Bungalow Cafe’on Saturday and Sunday from 9am until 7pm. Resident permits will be hand delivered week commencing 9 July 2012. Any additional permits can be collected from the administration cabin located on Cliffe Park from Tuesday 17 July. Proof of address must be shown.
