Sunderland folk festival - Folk Festival to light up Sunderland, 24 - 26th January

This January Charity Lighting The Landscape are ‘putting the sun into Sunderland’ with FolkalPoint Festival, 24-26th January at Sunderland Minister.

Folkalpoint is the first folk festival to be run by Lighting the Landscape.

Over several years, they have run a series of folk concerts bringing both sighted and visually impaired people together. Many visually impaired people simply never get the opportunity to be involved in such an event.

In 2012 Lighting the Landscape ran a Facebook campaign to keep Mike Harding on Radio 2. Although they did not win that battle, they were a major source of encouragement to Mike and now help with his latest venture in to the world of podcasting, maintaining parts of his website and running the Mike Harding Folk Show Facebook page.

This work has enabled them to make thousands of new friendships in the world of folk music enabling us to fulfill our long-held dream of hosting our very own festival.

This winter they will bring together world-renowned folk artists, young musicians and an audience from across the country and across communities to a part of the country that does not have enough folk festivals.

Following great offers of support for what they are planning across the Lighting the Landscape Group, they have secured dates at a fabulous venue – Folkalpoint will be based at Sunderland Minster, in the heart of the City, from 24-26 January 2014.

Great value ticket prices, including a range of options for day tickets as well as weekend passes.

They have over 20 top acts performing, including:

  • The Mighty Doonans,
  • Allan Taylor,
  • Mike Harding,
  • Andy Kershaw,
  • Jon Strong,
  • Reg Meuross and many more

Fringe events are planned in other local venues, and there will be a number of organisations represented from the music media (eg R2 Magazine) and music businesses.
