The  Marriage Act for Same Sex Couples 2013 comes into effect on Saturday 29th March 2014, and we’d like you to join in the celebration.

On Friday 28th March, Newcastle City Council and Northern Pride will be staging an event to explain more about the change in legislation and how to market to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community. It’s also an opportunity to meet couples who are interested in venues and wedding service providers as they plan their big day.

Following the change in law; The Government estimates that there will be 3,000 additional weddings per year on top of the 6,000 civil partnerships that currently take place.  There will also be interest from the 50,000 civil partnerships that already exist to convert to marriage status.

This is a unique opportunity to find out how you can engage with this lucrative market and promote your business with Pride.

The event will be split into two sessions:

Businesses:

3pm – arrival – refreshments

3.20pm – introduction by Peter Darrant, Northern Pride, and presentation on how to market to the LGBT community

3.45pm – change in legislation by Registrars Team

4.05pm – Q&A

Who should attend? Wedding Co-ordinators, Marketing Managers, Press Officers, Business Development Managers, Venues and Suppliers.

Those who attend the business session will be able to bring wedding packs and sales material for guests to take away.

Businesses & Guests:

4.30pm – refreshments

5.15pm – welcome by Peter Darrant, Northern Pride

5.30pm – Nick Forbes, Leader of Newcastle City Council

5.45pm – Light buffet served & opportunity to discuss wedding requirements with guests

7pm – Finish

As part of the celebration Newcastle City Council will be flying the rainbow flag; the Civic Centre will be lit up in rainbow colours and a 5ft wedding card will be opened for members of the community to sign and show their support.
