Petting Zoo is great fun for kids!

The free family events programme at the Great North Museum has a distinctly animal magic flavour this Easter with a packed family events programme for all ages.

With a bouncy castle and magician, CBeebies character Tree Fu Tom, a petting zoo and birds of prey display all part of the Magic World exhibition events programme.

Magic Worlds is the new exhibition at the museum which invites the visitor to enter worlds of fairytale, fantasy and illusion.   Visitors can immerse themselves in the imaginary worlds of witches, wizards, fairies, elves, dragons, magicians and illusionists.

  • Tuesday 8 April, is Magic and Dragons day from 11 – 3 pm, with a bouncy castle in the museum grounds and Mr Bubbles the magician performing in the Magic Worlds exhibition space.

 

  • On Wednesday 9 April from 11am – 3pm the Birds of Prey display will take place, with two 30 minute flying displays at 11.30am & 2pm – see owls, hawks, buzzards and other magnificent birds of falconry.
  • CBeebies character Tree Fu Tom, popular with young children, will take a break from his adventures in Treetopolis to visit his fans at the museum on Thursday 10 April (see website for times).

 

  • There are planetary inspired craft days  – Satellites and Planets Day on Tuesday 15 April and Alien Encounters Day on 17 April for those who want to get creative.

 

  • The Street Science Team from Newcastle University will be bringing science to life using household objects in the museum with wacky demos on 5, 9, 12 & 16 April from 12pm – 4pm.

All events are free, and no booking is required. However the museum advises families who want to see Tree Fu Tom give themselves plenty of time as it is expected to be very busy!
