To celebrate this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio, Active Sunderland are running a series of six community sports festivals at various locations throughout the city.
Working with partners and community sports clubs, Active Sunderland want to increase the number of people being active across the city….so get into the Olympic spirit and have a go at something different. The festivals will give everyone the opportunity to take part, free of charge, in a wide variety of sports and activities taster sessions.
Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, Councillor John Kelly said: “It is well recognised that being active can lead to great improvements in people’s physical and mental wellbeing which is good for everyone concerned.
“With programmes such as the Active Sunderland Sports Festivals we continue to work towards creating a city where everyone is as active as they can be. At the heart of this approach is the creation and delivery of as many opportunities as possible for residents to take part in healthy activities. I encourage everyone to go along and give a new sport or activity a go.”
All of the activities are free and everyone, of all ages and abilities, is encouraged to come along and have a go. Sports and activities at the festivals include football, rugby, martial arts, Netball, cricket, mini golf, volleyball, trampolining, led runs, walks and cycle rides, traditional sports day games and many more family activities.
All of the festivals will operate between 12noon and 4pm and will take place on the following dates and at these locations:
