About Absorb

Current Influences: Newham Generals, OGz, M.I.A., Devlin, Marger, Family Tree…
ABSORB is a grime artist from Durham and very rarely will you see him not donning a screwface. He thrives on bass music in and around one hundred and forty bpm and a pen and a notepad are never too far away from his grasp. Imagine a slightly irate Edward Scissorhands and Vega from Street Fighter II collaborating on a track and this is what you can expect from anything with ABSORB’s name on it.
He began life as a hip-hop artist but soon became fascinated by the raw sound that we now know today as grime. Having independently released an album and a free EP online, he released a further three singles and an EP with Newcastle-based producer Sequel, and as ABSORB VS SEQUEL, they’ve supported artists such as Skepta and Broken Note, received national press coverage, along with support from Radio 1 (Huw Stephens), Rinse FM, 6 Music, NME.com, Metro Radio, BBC Newcastle plus many more. They were also invited to the inaugural BBC Introducing Musician’s Masterclass in February 2011 at Abbey Road studios.
In 2012, ABSORB released his four-track single “I’ll Bring It” which featured some highly sought-after producers; Terror Danjah, Unit 27 and Slit Jockey Records co-founders
Dev 79 and Starkey. The single gained support from DJs far and wide, including regular rotations on Rinse FM and SubFM. The subsequent video also made it on to the Channel AKA playlist which heightened the awareness of the single further.
It was in 2012 that he also joined Newcastle-based rockstep group Rossi Noise, fusing a concoction of rock, dubstep, grime and drum and bass into their live shows. Having gained support from BBC Introducing, the group plan to release a number of singles and an EP to capitalise on the buzz they’ve created.
In 2013, ABSORB recognises that his approach to writing has definitely changed since he first put pen to paper back when he was at school. His, at times, unpredictable flow is now a staple of the ABSORB sound, where you’ll experience emotions ranging from all-out rage to bringing back his early R’n’B influences with catchy hooks and bridges. The raw energy, passion, determination and unmistakable aggression in ABSORB’s delivery all comes from a burning desire to succeed and to become a recognised name within his field. The recent attention he’s received from BBC 1Xtra indicates that he’s heading in the right direction, and with several singles, videos and an EP all planned for 2013, there is plenty more music to come over the next twelve months.
