Apprentice and boxing stars to inspire Northumberland entrepreneurs

Apprentice star Katie Bulmer-Cooke is to be joined by former world boxing champion and Sky Sports pundit Glenn McCrory to inspire the regions aspiring entrepreneurs at the ‘Start your business’ event hosted by Business Northumberland on Saturday, 24 January.

The event at Cramlington Learning Village is set to inspire the regions budding entrepreneurs to help kick-start their business journey. Attendees will be given the opportunity to listen to key entrepreneurs and inspirational speakers and also speak one-to-one with business advisors from a number of backgrounds on how best to get started.

Business Northumberland offers established and start-up businesses in the county free support in reaching their full growth potential. It is a free service that provides business advice and support to anyone thinking about starting a business in Northumberland and also offers business coaching to existing businesses with growth ambitions. Business Northumberland is jointly funded by Arch, The Northumberland Development Company, Northumberland County Council and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Last year, Katie competed against hundreds of candidates and was successfully chosen for the hit TV show ‘The Apprentice’ but Katie began her journey in the world of business at the age of only 16, setting up exercise classes in her home town of Sunderland. 11 years on and Katie is now selling her fitness DVDs and online training programmes in the US, Australia, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand and Mexico, as well as educating her fellow fitness professionals on how they can grow their businesses.

Katie said: “I’m really looking forward to sharing my journey in business with those starting out. This event is set to be a great day of inspiration but most importantly key advice as to how to start a successful business”

Glenn McCrory will also be speaking at the event on his rise to becoming a World Championship Boxer, sharing his top motivational tips, how to bounce back from knock backs and the importance of keeping a positive approach in business and in life.

Ashington entrepreneur Graham Murdie is one of the entrepreneurs to successfully start-up having attended the first Start Your Business event at Woodhorn museum. Although Graham had no experience in fashion design or manufacturing, he has now launched his own sports garments brand creating bespoke kits for a range of clients.

Minerwear has already worked with Ashington’s Miners Rugby League club, Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light and the Juniors for Castleford Rugby League club and continues to expand. The company covers sports such as Rugby League and Union, Football, Athletics, Cycling and Ice Hockey and Graham hopes to one day set up his own manufacturing facility locally.

The previous three ‘Start your business’ events have welcomed over 400 delegates whom have taken up help from the Business Northumberland initiative and looked into starting their own business. The event is free to attend and runs from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, 24 January at Cramlington Learning Village.

In addition to running workshops, Business Northumberland is also able to provide business support and advice through its knowledgeable business support team.
