Newcastle City Council should be ashamed by this decision, 90+ willing workers placed out of work by red tape, when the UK already has 2.5 million unemployed.

Such a poor decision and a complete waste of taxpayers money. Perhaps if the same amount of time, effort and money was spent helping local employers this country would not be in such a state.

Its OK for a national garage service to have one single number and connect you to your local office, but when its a Private Hire company (governed but out of date law) you can't? Come on Newcastle City Council get with the 21st century!

Lee Clayton • as an employee of the blue line group and part of the management team it has been the worst time of my profesional career, to stand and tell over 90 people we can no longer supply them with work over a rediculous council licence condition, which has only been applied to us and may i add we believe no other council in the country has this condition. its been a very sad day here at blueline while council officers go on air nonchalantly telling the public drivers can go to any firm... what if these firms do have the work? what do they tell the next call centre worker layed of "there are plenty of call centres to work at". typical council responce. we are devastated here at blueline and our scincere apologies to all the drivers and families affected by this
