The PLAYHOUSE is pleased to announce that the four local acts appearing at Breakin’ Convention 2016 are:
- the brilliant Battalions Crew;
- the excellent Custom Breaks (returning to the PLAYHOUSE after their 2014 debut);
- Sunderland’s super Dance Jam;
- and the fantastic Flava Bay, hailing from our very own Whitley Bay!
Breakin’ Convention is Sadler’s Wells’ ground breaking festival of hip hop dance theatre featuring a line-up of jaw-dropping performances from around the world and around the corner. Curated by UK hip hop theatre legend Jonzi D, the event brings some of the world’s best poppers, lockers, b-boys and b-girls together to dance alongside local crews.
International artists this year include world bboy champions, The Ruggeds, hailing from the Netherlands, who will perform a high-octane show; French native Antoinette Gomis, performing a poetically emotive solo to Nina Simone’s ‘Images’; and Spanish group Iron Skulls, merging bboying with contemporary for an apocalyptic showpiece.
Breakin’ Convention is more than just a show – it’s an experience! DJs, dancers, live aerosol art, MCs and freestyle sessions take over the building in the ultimate celebration of hip hop culture!
Tickets costing £12, £8 conc. are on sale now during the early bird period, tickets are £14, £10 conc. after 31st January 2016.
