RED AND white will be swapped for tartan, as Sunderland’s Stadium of Light gets set to celebrate Scotland’s most famous supper.

On 27 January the stadium will play host to a gourmet Burns Evening, with a traditional five course dinner accompanied by wines from across the world, along with a range of Scottish entertainment.

The meal begins with cock-a-leekie soup served with oat and potato bread, followed by the arrival of the haggis with neeps and tatties.

Main course is a medallion of Scottish beef topped with game and herb mousse with rumpledethumps – a traditional dish made of cabbage, potato and onions from the Scottish Borders – with a whisky and grain mustard sauce.

Diners will also enjoy a trio of Scottish desserts including raspberry cranachan – a dish made with oats, cream and whisky – Ecclefechan butter tart and chocolate whisky pot.

For those who still have room, the meal will be rounded off with shortbread, tablet and Edinburgh rock.

Scottish pipers and dancers will also be providing entertainment on the night, which costs £54.50 per person.

Rachel Divers, Head of Commercial Sales at SAFC, said the event would give people the opportunity to enjoy Burns Night in real style.

“Our gourmet events are always very popular so we decided to put a spin on Burns Night and combine the two in what should be a fantastic event,” she said.
