ON SATURDAY 30 April the Active Sunderland BIG Family Fun Run is set to launch the Active Sunderland BIG events programme for 2016. Everyone is being encouraged not to miss out on a great ‘early bird’ offer of a reduced entry fee until 18 March.
With a focus on fun running for all the family, the event offers the choice of a 1.5 or 3Km circuit of Mowbray Park which is especially suitable for children.
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said: “The Active Sunderland BIG Family Fun Run is one of many fantastic running events for people of all ages and abilities happening in Sunderland across a weekend which includes the Siglion Sunderland City 10K and Siglion Sunderland City Half Marathon.
“Our event is especially suitable for families, of any age or ability, as you can run, jog or walk around the fantastic Mowbray Park. This is a great way for young children and their parents to join in and have a great day out with the emphasis very much on having a fun.”
“This year’s all new event has many new features and we are looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces coming back as well as those joining in for the first time.”
The runs will be preceded at 1pm with the start of the family fun programme of activities within Mowbray Park. Including ‘have a go’ sports taster sessions , traditional family sports day activities such as an obstacle course and tug of war there will be something for the whole family to enjoy.
