Visitors from around the world are now booking in to Northern England’s first Hilton Garden Inn hotel.
The stylish new property, adjacent to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, is the only one of its brand between Birmingham and Glasgow.
It was officially opened by the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Barry Curran, in a civic ceremony earlier this week (May 3) and has already received enquiries from as far afield as Germany, Holland and the USA.
“This is a fantastic development for Sunderland and the wider North East,” said
Mayor of Sunderland, Cllr Curran. “There was a real sense of anticipation across the city while construction was underway and I am sure the venue will be warmly embraced now that doors are open.”
The Hilton Garden Inn, Sunderland, boasts 141-bedroom en-suite bedrooms, each offering signature bedding, as well as a spacious work desk with an ergonomic desk chair, in-room mini fridge, controlled air conditioning, flat screen TV and access to complimentary WiFi.
As part of its official launch more than 150 VIP guests were given the opportunity to tour the property, including its state-of-the-art gym, 24-hour business centre and various meeting rooms accommodating up to 70 delegates.
Those in attendance were also able to sample some of the Pan-American fusion dishes being served in the hotel’s contemporary restaurant, the Karbon Grill, as well as cocktails from its adjoining bar.
Dishes included Maryland crab cakes, signature Karbon burgers, steaks, goats’ cheese and beetroot, all cooked on the Josper grill for a stronger barbecue taste, as well as Karbon’s signature cocktails, margaritas and raspberry and lychee martinis.
Work on the Hilton Garden Inn, Sunderland, which took around a year to complete, was managed by Tolent Construction Ltd and professional services provider, Turner & Townsend plus many other North East-based companies.
Now open, the venue will provide high quality, good value accommodation for those visiting the North East, including football fans and concert-goers attending events at the Stadium of Light, tourists exploring the surrounding area and those doing businesses with key companies based in and around the city itself.
“There is a clear demand for a hotel of this calibre in Sunderland,” said Kim Kelso, General Manager for Hilton Garden Inn, Sunderland.
“We have already taken accommodation bookings from a lot of international visitors, as well as restaurant reservations from people across the North East and we are excited now to see how things progress.”
