Live Review: Jason Isaacs @ Newcastle City Hall, Saturday 24th March 2012
Tonight’s the night!
The aims of the night were simple – sell out the City Hall and Jason, 36, wins a record contract from former Metro Radio boss Giles Squire! Over the past few months I have helped Jason with his campaign and was delighted to see him get the contract! Turning up at the city hall and seeing the massive queues of fans, it was clear Jason had the support and the talent to have pulled it off! And this was no surprise as Jason was recently the winner of the Alan Titchmarsh Show’s Crooner of the Year Television competition!
Jason and The North East HUB
Since creating The North East HUB, I have written two articles on Jason prior to this one. The first article was on the first time I met Jason and witnessed his great talent, being blown away at an intimate gig he gave at the Hylton Hotel, read the article here. My second article was on the auditions Jason held to find another local talent to replace Faye Tozer (Steps) and duet with him on stage at his Important Newcastle City Hall gig – after tough competition the winner was Val Boyers! Read the article here.
Time for Jason to shine!
We took our seats and could feel the excitement in air! Spotting the two video camera’s ready to record the show – a show that us and Jason would never forget! After a short introduction Jason entered onto the stage to round of applause from the audience. Jason was very modest and thanked the audience with all his heart for coming down and supporting him, in fact he thanked the audience several times throughout the night and at one point said ”I think I gone and got myself a recording contract!” which brought on more applause. Jason opened the show with swing classic ‘All of me’ accompanied by The Dave Connolly Big Band, and later The Fenner Sisters. Jason went on to sing songs from the greats including – Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Elvis, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and a swing version of wonderwall by Oasis. In-between songs Jason’s fantastic friendly personality shone through with some funny jokes and great banter. He later showed off his other talent…his saxophone playing to ‘Summertime’ and a few others. A great time was had by all!
Jason’s leading lady
It was also an important night for duet competition winner Val Boyers, 36, read how she won her duet with jason here. Val dazzled the audience with two solo’s Nat King Cole’s – ‘Orange Coloured Sky’ and Peggy Lee’s – ‘Why Don’t You Do Right?’ which was also her audition song. Jason then joined her on stage to sing their duet together – ‘How Do You Like Your Eggs In The Morning?’ which the crowd loved! At the after show party I was able to catch up with Val (still buzzing from the night) for a little interview, see below.
Jason surprises groupies!
After the show Jason had one more surprise up his sleeve! He went out to sign to programmes for his fans and was swomped by them! I went up to get mine signed too, seeing a guy stood behind me waiting too I asked him ”Are you getting a programme signed for your wife?” his reply “No, it’s for me” haha!
Jason has a very mixed age of fans and they couldn’t get enough! Posing for photos and signing endless autographs Jason was in his essence.
What’s next?
Jason will be recording his a single and EP in the North East very soon. This song for the single is still under discussion. The North East HUB will continue to support Jason and provide his latest updates and releases – watch this space!
