A guide to setting up a mobile catering business
There has never been a better time to set up a mobile catering business, if facts and figures around the food and drink industry are anything to go by.
Take this infographic from the Food and Drink Federation for example. According to the organisation, there has been an 11 per cent increase in food and drink productivity across the UK over the last five years. This statistic is even more impressive when you factor in that overall UK productivity has only increased by 0.5 per cent over the same period.
The fact that 96 per cent of the 6,620 businesses on the Food and Drink Federation system are micro to medium-sized, also showcases that you don’t need to be a big-name brand to get started in the industry.
Set up a mobile catering business and you will also be entering an industry that is proving extremely popular with customers. Figures released by Euromonitor International predict that expenditure on pizza, curry and Chinese food takeaways across Britain will increase by 28 per cent to reach £7.6 billion a year.
When it comes to getting your mobile catering business off the ground, you will also benefit from low start-up costs and low overheads. An immediate cash income will surely be a welcome bonus too, not to mention having the opportunity to be your own boss.
If you’re unsure of where to begin when looking into this venture though, catering equipment specialists Nisbets has a handy guide on getting started. It features expert advice from both Mark Laurie, of the Nationwide Caterers Association, and Flic Luxmore, who runs the mobile catering business The Jabberwocky. Check it out here.
