To celebrate Newcastle’s rich music heritage and outstanding music venues NE1 is hosting the city’s first ever, NE1’s Newcastle Music Week From 25 – 31 October 2014.
Newcastle’s music credentials are many and varied from the international artists who were born here like Sting, Mark Knopfler, Hank Marvin and many others to the musical firsts that were celebrated in the city – including Nirvana’s first UK performance at the city’s old Riverside venue and rock legend, Jimi Hendrix busking in Heaton.
The focus of the NE1’s Newcastle Music Week will be to celebrate live music in all its many guises and to encourage venues across the city to get involved to host their own NE1’s Newcastle Music Week events. Throughout the week, the city will come alive with the sound of music with live performances across the city.
Tying these events together and to enable the public to get the most from the week will be NE1’s Newcastle Music Week wristbands which will be distributed free of charge at venues across the city. A range of offers, promotions and discounts will all be on offer during the week accessed on presentation of the NE1’s Newcastle Music Week wristband.
International music legend and lead guitarist for the Shadows, Hank Marvin added his weighty support to the inaugural NE1’s Newcastle Music Week saying:
“I have many good memories of growing up in Newcastle, always a great city for music. Howay the lads!”
Commenting on the first NE1’s Newcastle Music Week, Sandra Tang, Marketing and Events Manager at NE1 said:
“Newcastle has a thriving musical community of which we are very proud, from our strong independent music shops to our great educational facilities at Newcastle College and University – not to mention the many international artists and musicians that have been born and bred here. NE1’s Newcastle Music Week aims to turn the spotlight on these people, venues and businesses and to celebrate the city’s achievements across the musical spectrum.”
Music aficionados will have a vast array of events, musical styles and venues to choose from throughout the inaugural NE1 Newcastle Music Week including:
Ed Sheeran at Metro Radio Arena; Sam Smith and Jonny Marr at O2 Academy and Sheryl Crow, John Cooper Clarke at The Sage.
