The North East HUB is happy to be a sponsor of the first N.U. Lions’ Den.
The Newcastle University Business School in collaboration with the NU Marketing Society, the NU Alumni Association and the welcomed support of the NU Entrepreneur Society will host the first annual N.U. Lions’ Den on the 24th of April 2013.
The event will be an opportunity for all enterprising Newcastle University students to showcase their zest for entrepreneurship to the wider public and compete for 5 prizes and a total of £5,000 pounds in cash and prize awards!!! .
The attending and competing businesses are in different stages of development, from promising business plans for potential business ventures to nascent start-up companies and businesses registered and trading by student(s) who are still in education at Newcastle University.
Business people, investors and entrepreneurs from the local and regional community, members of the public, University alumni and current students and staff are invited to explore, interact and network with the student businesses and then watch them compete for a range of cash prizes.
This event is open to all and free to attend but prior registration is welcomed. There is a registration fee of £10 pounds for participating student businesses.
The event has a dual character. In the first part (13:00-15:00), the trade show will allow current students to showcase their entrepreneurial talents. On the day, all visitors will be given printable fake money which they can ‘invest’ to any business they believe has a potential to grow and become profitable.
Following the trade show, in the second part (15:30-17:00), the NU-Lions’ will be inviting the shortlisted companies (who secured the highest ‘funding’ from the public as well as captured the Lions’ attention) to present their business plans in front of them and the wider audience and compete for the prize awards. The winners will be announced and presented with their prizes at the end of day!

Event Details:.
Place: The event will be held in The Venue at the Students’ Union (building 5 on the map) on the campus of the Newcastle University (Kings Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8QB) from 1p.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesday the 24th of April, 2013.
Parking: Please note that the University doesn’t offer free parking. There are plenty of parking spaces available around the N.U. campus and the city center that operate on a pay and display basis. Parking places are marked with a ‘P’ on this map.
Photography and Video on the day: Attendees that do not wish to engage in any filming, video or photography which will be taking place throughout the duration of the event and the after party, should register their names upon entry to the event and will subsequently be given a coloured name tag indicating to the photographers that they have opted out.
