If you still don’t really know what The Bunker is all about then here’s your chance to learn more. On Saturday the 28th of September, The Bunker opens its doors for a special open day so anyone with an interest in music can just come along and take part in a range of interactive workshops and activities.
.
Six of The Bunker’s rehearsal studios will each host a display of various different activities including:
The music development organisation which last year celebrated its 30th Anniversary, aims to encourage local people to learn a new instrument or improve upon their talent, by using the music studios to polish their skills and benefit from the advice from the dedicated and experienced staff.
.
The studios which have played an important role in local bands such as The Futureheads, Field Music, Frankie and the Heartstrings among many others have had a recent refurbished in advance of the Open Day and the series of workshops that will follow. However, The Bunker has always been much more than a home for local rock bands and boasts a client list including many local businesses, community groups and local authorities.
.
The Bunker’s managing director Kenny Sanger spoke about the event, “I think an open day is really important as it’s a good opportunity for people who may not normally be familiar with the services we offer to come in and see for themselves first hand”.
.
With funding from Gentoo’s Aspire grant and Sunderland City Council’s Community Chest, The Bunker hopes that the open day will encourage local people of all ages to try out their quality facilities at their studios in Stockton Rd. Artwork and photography from local artists, plus competitions and prizes will keep the whole family happy all day.
.
Tom Greenwood, co-organiser of the event added, “We’re making sure the day is packed full of fun and interesting activities, to inspire local people to try something new and continue to stay involved in the local music community. We want to have something for everyone, from making your own cd to singing lessons to DJ’ing classes and advice on the music industry.”
.
The day starts at 10.00 am and runs till 3am with the activities scheduled at time throughout the day. To find out more information or to register a group booking for an activity, please call 01915671777 or email [email protected].
