“We have already made 25 temporary staff permanent and expect a further 50 agency workers to be assuming TRW contracts over the coming months. In addition, we are creating around 20 engineering and technical positions which will see our workforce exceed 750 by the end of 2015.

“Looking at our projected growth based on the company’s forward order book, we expect our workforce will reach 1,000 by 2018.”

TRW has been based in Peterlee since 1989 and now occupies a 57,690 square metre site on the North West Industrial Estate.

It supplies companies within the automotive sector globally with a wide range of products and has seen a particular increase in demand for forward-looking camera technology, which is becoming an important safety feature in today’s cars and lorries due to new legislation and the industry’s drive to reduce fatalities.

Robin added: “This is a very exciting time to be part of TRW and join a global safety company which is growing massively. We want to attract people who share our ambitions and want to join a diverse, highly technical electronics facility which services clients around the world.”
