Summer Events in Newcastle 2013

NE1’s Quayside Seaside
Back in the city – for four months from 31 May – 30 September, Newcastle Quayside’s very own pop up beach with beautiful white sands, palm trees and NE1 deckchairs.

Pull up a deck chair and watch the world go by or if you are feeling energetic round-up some friends for a game of beach volleyball on the beach volleyball court.  NE1 will be running the beach volleyball league for city centre based businesses again this summer, previous winners have included Ward Hadaway Law Firm and Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Quayside Seaside has been welcomed into the heart of the city and its return was heralded with a storm of tweets from people delighted to see its return.  This year the beach is 20% bigger with more sand and decking to be enjoyed by the thousands of visitors to Newcastle’s Quayside during the summer.

NE1’s Newcastle Restaurant Week
5 – 11 August
The dates have been set for NE1’s Newcastle Restaurant Week in August.
NE1’s Restaurant Week will return from 5-11 August – offering the chance to savour the delights of some of Newcastle’s finest in what will be the sixth Restaurant Week the city has hosted since NE1 launched the initiative three years ago.

Alive after Five
The city remains open, vibrant and Alive after Five with extended shopping until 8pm every weekday and until 7pm on Saturdays.   Supported by free car parking in the council run multi-storey car parks after 5pm Monday to Friday, Alive after Five provides another major reason to come into the city to enjoy all that will be happening.

NE1’s Monument Movies
Every Tuesday & Thursday from 23rd July – 29th August
Back by popular demand – NE1’s Monument Movies return to Grey’s Monument for the summer.  Every Tuesday and Thursday during school holidays, film classics and family favourites will be showcased on the big screen – free of charge.  Pull up an NE1 deckchair and watch a movie, while keeping one eye on the passing crowds, there’s no better vantage point to people and movie watch in the city.

NE1’s Zap Cat Power Boat Grand Prix
Saturday 31 – 1 September
A new bank holiday staple – The NE1 Zapcat Grand Prix powerboat race will take the Tyne by storm when 20 teams compete for the coveted title of NE1 Zapcat Grand Prix champion.  Two days of fast powerboat action as the Zapcats powerboats rip up the river.   The races take place 10am & 6pm on Saturday 31 August and 1 September between the Tyne and Millennium Bridges providing an amazing, free to watch spectacle for the crowds that gather on the Quayside.

World Cities Week
24 – 29 September
World Cities Week returns to the city on 24 September.  Grey’s Monument will be alive with the sights and sounds of many different nationalities, all brought to life in the heart of Newcastle with street food stalls, music, dance and cultural performances from around the world to celebrate the city’s cultural diversity.

NE1 Scratch Bikes
