sunderlandhorticultureshow - Entries Open: Sunderland Horticultural Show, 21 - 22 September

SUNDERLAND’S Horticultural Show is at Seaburn Leisure Centre on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September.

All are welcome to attend and entry is FREE.

Exhibitors from all over the country come to the centre to show their prize vegetables and flowers.

There are more than 80 different classes, including children’s classes.

The Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Robert Heron is presenting prizes to the Class winners on the Sunday at 5pm.

This is followed by an auction of produce with all monies raised going to the Mayor’s chosen charities.

There will also be societies and craft stalls over the weekend.

Cllr Heron is a keen gardener and grows his own produce on an allotment in Houghton.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to this. The show is a big event for a lot of people and its success is all due to the support that it receives from across the community.

“Gardening and growing flowers and vegetables is always rewarding and it will be interesting to see how entrants across all the categories have coped with the warm and sunny weather this year.

“Ahead of the show, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gets involved and makes it such a success.

“Thanks go to the members and supporters of the societies, arts and craft exhibitors, community groups and individuals who put so much effort into these shows.”

Those interested in entering their produce for one of the prizes can pick up a leaflet and entry form at many public venues, including libraries.

Alternatively entry forms can be downloaded from www.sunderland.gov.uk

If you’re a craft exhibitor who would like to get involved please call 0191 561 3941

The popular Sunderland in Bloom competition is also now open with judging through this month and September.

It has classes for the best household garden, for businesses, pubs and schools, and some great prizes.
