Local musicians will be performing at venues around Sunderland city centre as part of Oxjam, the UK’s biggest music festival. The event on 19th October will be raising money for Oxfam’s work fighting poverty around the world.
It forms part of Oxjam month of music, which runs through the whole of October. Oxjam is a festival with a difference: thousands of fundraising music events are put on by ordinary people – from large-scale festivals to local sponsored busks – making it the biggest line-up of any music festival in the UK.
This year sees the first ever Sunderland Takeover which will be showcasing local talent all in aid of raising the much-needed funds for Oxfam.
Grant Edmundson, Oxjam Sunderland manager, “We hope to raise around £2500 for the charity which will come from ticket sales and raffle sales. This money will make a huge impact on those who are living in poverty,”
The Takeover is playing host to 20 plus bands across 3 venues with the likes of local band The Face who have said “It’s going to be the best gig ever.” The Takeover includes the following venues working around different genres of music.
The Borough, will be home to the hard rock and metal stage, Pure who will be hosting the alternative stage and Independent who will be the venue for our Indie bands. There is something for everyone.
Andrew Stoker, Pure, said “We’re really excited to be playing our part in Oxjam. It’s a great opportunity to show local music and make money to change lives across the world. Everyone who comes along will have a great night too knowing that they’re helping to change lives around the world.”
