A popular North East pub is benefitting from a £700,000 investment by Tavistock Hospitality Ltd.

The leading leisure firm, which bought The Plough, Mountsett in 2010, is now transforming the site into a brewery tap for its Sonnet 43 Brew House based at Coxhoe, County Durham.

This includes a complete overhaul of the venue’s interior, as well as the addition of tipi huts to host outdoor events and weddings and a separate, upstairs dining area to host private functions for up to 30 guests.

The work, which is expected to take around two months to complete, follows the departure of The Plough’s most recent management team and the start of its direct running by Tavistock Hospitality Ltd.

The leisure firm plans to inject a similar style to its recent refurbishments of the Toronto Lodge, Bishop Auckland and the Three Horseshoes Hotel, Sunderland.

“The Plough has been a popular member of Tavistock’s portfolio for a number of years and we are delighted to be taking over direct operation of the site this summer,” said Jonathan Graham, Operations Director of Tavistock Hospitality Ltd.

“Not only will our £700,000 investment enhance what is already available, with a new look and improved restaurant menu, but the addition of tipis and a private dining area will also make it a more versatile venue for a wide range of private events.

“With its enviable location, we hope that the new Plough will appeal not only to visitors from County Durham but the bordering areas of Tyne and Wear too.”

Tavistock Hospitality Ltd, based in Sunderland, currently operates more than a dozen bars, restaurants and hotels across the North East, as well as the Sonnet 43 Brew House and Poetic License Distillery.
