SUNDERLAND FANS SHOULD NOT MISS THIS SHOW!

An actor who is a devout Sunderland fan will be living the dream when he performs a one-man show dedicated to the Black Cats.

Paul Dunn, from Grindon in Sunderland, will be performing I Left My Heart In Roker Park this September in South Shields, Washington and Durham, and is calling on Sunderland fans to give support for the show that covers the devotion of a fan from the team’s Roker Park days through to the turmoil of last season.

Written by top north-east playwright Tom Kelly, whose work includes I Heart Kent Walton,The Girl and the Unicorn and Tom & Catherine, as well as several volumes of poetry, I Left My Heart At Roker Park features Kevin Halliday, a lifelong Sunderland supporter who, over the course of an afternoon in the back garden of his home – on the site of the former Roker Park – recalls the events of his life as they interweave with the fortunes of his beloved club.

Mr Dunn, who recently performed the lead role in Dracula: Die Laughing in Sunderland and Whitby, and starred as Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers at the Westovian Theatre in South Shields, said: “It is a play about excitement, heartache, disappointment, satisfaction and jubilation. For Kevin, watching his team and living his life have both provided them all. Tom Kelly has updated his original 1997 script; it’s a funny, poignant and ultimately heart-warming play that tells the story of one man’s journey through his life and loves.”

The show will be performed at:

  • The Customs House (19th & 20th Sept),
  • Washington Arts Centre (25th Sept)
  • Durham Gala (27th & 28th Sept).

Full price tickets cost between £8.50 and £12. Concessions available. Contact theatre box offices or see their websites for details.
