Former X Factor contestant, Amelia Lily, will headline a star-studded concert at St Nicholas Cathedral this December in aid of a teenage cancer charity.
The Teenage Cancer Trust Christmas Concert, to be held at the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas on Wednesday December 18, is once again being sponsored by Newcastle law firm Clarke Mairs. It will raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of 13-24 year olds diagnosed with cancer.
Completing the line-up of performers at the concert will be Emmerdale’s Chelsea Halfpenny, BBC Radio Newcastle’s Charlie Charlton, North East soul singer Glen Roughead, comedian and poet Kate Fox, ITV’s Ian Payne and ITV Vera’s David Leon. Pupils from Newcastle Central High and Newcastle Church High School will also be participating in the choir, as well as providing some comedy performances.
Returning again this year, Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall will join a group of current and former patients who have been supported by the charity for a special performance. Written by the patients, their song ‘Here We Stand’ features Jai as well as former patient, Melissa Cavanagh, on lead vocals supported by a 30 strong choir of patients, families and Voice of the Town Choir. The song was recorded at The Loft Studios in Newcastle and will be available both to buy on the night and online.
Middlesbrough born successful chart topper Amelia Lily said: “I am delighted to be performing at this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust Christmas Concert right here in the North East. Teenage Cancer Trust make such a difference to the lives of young cancer patients and their families, and I hope this year’s concert will raise lots of money to support them.”
The high-profile concert is being organised by the Teenage Cancer Trust North East Fundraising Board as part of their efforts to raise £100,000 over the course of the next year to support Teenage Cancer Trust’s work in the region.

Not only are we welcoming support from the general public but are also looking for sponsorship from local businesses who, as part of their support, will enjoy a VIP reception in the Cathedral following the concert with the performers. Both Teenage Cancer Trust and the North East Fundraising Board are looking to develop long-term relationships with local businesses and the Cathedral Concert represents an ideal opportunity to become involved with this very worthwhile local charity.”
For the second year running the main sponsor is Newcastle law firm, Clarke Mairs. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the seven young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day. The charity build specialist units within NHS hospitals bringing young people together to be treated by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them. There are two of these specialists units right here in the NorthEast.
