OXJAM, THE NATIONWIDE MUSIC FESTIVAL, IS COMING TO WESTGARTH SOCIAL CLUB ON SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2013!
Oxjam is Oxfam’s month-long music festival. It runs throughout October with hundreds of events around the UK – all organised by people who know and love their local music scene, and all in aid of Oxfam.
Since the first Oxjam in 2006, more than 45,000 musicians have played to over 1 million people to around 3,500 Oxjam events nationwide. Oxjam has raised more than £2 million in total for Oxfam, which is enough to feed 285,000 families; buy 80,000 goats or provide safe water for 1,200 schools!
The Oxjam Middlesbrough Presents team have organised a gig at Westgarth Social Club on Saturday 26th October, with doors opening at 7pm, tickets are £5 in advance, £7 on the door.
The Oxjam gig will be an amazing evening to showcase some extremely talented local musicians; we have The Broken Broadcast, Alistair Sheerin, Dressed Like Wolves and General Sherman. It’s all in aid of Oxfam….so get yourselves there, it’s going to be a great night!

The Broken Broadcast
The Broken Broadcast are a lo-fi folk band from Teesside, with the band releasing their first full length album, Soya Milk Sea, in 2010, gaining underground media attention from The Northern Line and Suitcase Orchestra. The Broken Broadcast have played various types of shows throughout the North, including the Stockton International Riverside Festival, and have supported musicians such as Stornoway and The Miserable Rich.
Their second album How Not to Cut A Buffalo, which was a couple of years in the making, was well worth the wait. It was launched in June 2013 to rave reviews.

Alistair Sheerin
Alistair Sheerin’s music displays a remarkable degree of individuality. Pairing an upbeat melody with rich lyrics, the young man from Middlesbrough captures the attention of anyone within hearing distance.
Lately, Alistair and his music has captured the attention of some well-known artists such as Tom Clarke from The Enemy who labelled Alistair “a f*****g genius” and has just finished several tour dates supporting Miles Kane.

Dressed Like Wolves
In the third month of 2009, Rick found himself alone with lots of songs. He only knew four chords. A week later, he met Matt, who happened to have lots of instruments and a tape recorder. They bought some microphones, recorded a lot of songs, and then played some good and some not very good shows.
Rick continues to embark on his adventure of storytelling from picture books, daydreams and apparent religious menace while Matt continues to push the record button.

General Sherman
General Sherman are a group of five friends from Middlesbrough. Utilising guitars, keys, strings, glockenspiel, ukulele, percussion and flute they make unusual, warm folk music. They tackle topics such as murderous family pets, insecurity, the life of a tree, greed, Cleveland’s hills, nostalgia, why heathens rage furiously and striking a ball well. They released their debut EP “Tales of Noddy’s House” in December last year and are currently recording their debut album.
