STUDENTS across Sunderland are celebrating another good set of A-level passes.
This year’s provisional figures show that the percentage of A*-E passes in school sixth forms and at Sunderland College remains at 99 per cent.
Last year the percentage of passes rose two percentage points to 99 per cent.
The percentage of grade A*-C passes remains at 76 per cent.
This is seven percentage points more than two years ago, and up from 52 per cent five years ago.
And, 21 per cent of entries – more than one-in-five – received an A* or A grade.
Councillor Pat Smith, Sunderland City Council Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “Once again, we can be very proud of city students who have worked hard and have another set of excellent exam results.
“I know everybody will want to congratulate them.
“We should also congratulate families, friends, teachers and staff in school sixth forms and Sunderland College who have all supported students.
“Their support helps pave the way for students to go further in their education and careers.”
The Sunderland pass rate comes from students sitting their A-levels at the joint school/Sunderland College sixth-forms at Usworth, St. Peter’s, Bede Academy and Headways, and the sixth forms of St Aidan’s and St Anthony’s in Sunderland, and St Robert’s in Washington.
