Sunderland Swimathon To Support Your Charity

sunderland charity swimathon

Entries have been flooding in with teams of up to six people taking the plunge and signing up to swim in a relay of 25m lengths for one hour at the event, which takes place at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre from 7am until 7pm on Friday July 5.

It is just £12 per team to enter and spectators can support for free. Teams have the choice of the hour they wish to swim so whether they are early birds or late-starters there is something for everyone. Everyone taking part is encouraged to raise money for their chosen charity.

Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said:”Swimming is a great inclusive sport which almost anyone can enjoy. Teams can be made up of friends, family, work colleagues, sports clubs – basically anyone who wants to take part.

“Last year the atmosphere inside the Aquatic Centre was tremendous, and I’m sure this year will again be a fantastic event.

“We would urge everyone interested to spread the word and get their registration forms filled in as soon as possible – the event is really affordable at just £12 for a team of six and it’s open to everyone who can swim 25 metres unaided, so it’s a fantastic opportunity for all the family.”

Entries must be received no later than 12 noon on Friday 28 June, application forms are available at all Wellness Centres.
