Twelve of the best unsigned artists in North East of England went head to head last Saturday, January 25th, in the final of the Soundwave Music Competition on the main stage at O2 Academy Newcastle in a bid to win an array of prizes.
Prizes included a full days recording at Broadwater Recording Studios, as well as radio airplay, photo shoots and more.
Samantha Jayne who is just 14 years old based in County Durham saw off competition from, Shortside Avenue, Channy Thompson, What Are We Aiming For, HighTide, Aqua-Lung, Sophie Leigh, The Backfire, Elena Larkin, Arcane 39, VK2 and Bitter Sweet Hearts to win the huge contest.
In order to reach the final of Soundwave Music Competition, Samantha, who is intrigued by pop music and compared by the judges to the likes of Ellie Goulding, passed through several tough audition stages through which the amount of entrants was whittled down from over 300 to the final 12.
A spokesman for the competition said: “The final show on the main stage at O2 Academy Newcastle was buzzing and we had some fantastic talented finalists”
“The final crowd turnout was unreal and it was great to have local unsigned artists on the main stage where greats such as John Newman are going to be performing”
The final of Soundwave was played in front of a capacity crowd at the Newcastle’s O2 Academy and the winner was decided from a panel of expert judges including some of the region’s biggest radio stars and a text vote system.
Be Minor who previously reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent also made a star guest appearance performing an energetic set.
