The UK’s fastest growing group of authentic, award-winning Thai restaurants, Thai Leisure Group, has opened its flagship restaurant, Chaophraya, in Newcastle city centre. Investing over £1.5 million in the rooftop site, the luxury restaurant is set to be the city’s premier social and dining venue.
Ian Leigh, Managing Director of Thai Leisure Group commented: “Newcastle city centre has been a key target for us for a while now, so naturally we are incredibly excited to be bringing our new restaurant to the region.
“Over the past year, we have had a team flying back and forth between the UK and Thailand, sourcing decorations, furniture and finalising recipes – all with the ambition to make the Newcastle restaurant a truly inspirational and immersive experience for our customers.”
Staying true to its Thai roots, a traditional opening ceremony was carried out by Buddhist Monks on 8th December 2016. Spiritual chanting and a sacred blessing took place on site at the intu Eldon Square restaurant, in order to bestow good fortune and prosperity on the new establishment.
Newcastle’s Chaophraya will offer its customers fine cuisine in an opulent and dramatic setting. Signature dishes off the menu include soft shell crab served on a bed of mango salad, palm sugar and chili glazed chicken, and the renowned Phad Thai served in a contemporary way.

The restaurant will be the brand’s first restaurant in the North East and its seventh restaurant to open in the UK, with plans for further expansion throughout 2017.
