SOME of the biggest names in the retail sector are going head to head in a bid to win public votes for a top award.
All 24 of intu Metrocentre’s newest restaurants, leisure outlets and shops are competing for the title of Best Newcomer at the centre’s annual Retailer Awards.
And they are calling on diners and shoppers to cast their votes before the deadline closes on 31 August – with the chance for one lucky voter to win a £250 intu Metrocentre gift card.
Within the Qube alone, recent new openings include ASK Italian, Barburrito, Byron, Chiquito, Coast to Coast, Five Guys, TGI Fridays, Thaikhun – each trying to snatch the title.
While, elsewhere at the centre, retailers such as children’s stationery shop, Smiggle, GAME and Cath Kidston will join leisure firms such as Hays Travel and Virgin Holidays who will be hoping to bag the award of Best Newcomer.
Best newcomer is one of 11 categories at the awards, which recognise the achievements of intu Metrocentre’s stores and staff members.
Others include best menswear, ladieswear, health and beauty, jewellery and footwear and accessories store of the year.
Shoppers can also vote for their favourite large and small stores, specialist store and leisure and catering operator – or nominate an outstanding staff member for a World Class Service award.
“Our newcomers have all proved incredibly popular with visitors and I think this is going to be one of the most close-run categories in the awards,” said Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
“Every vote counts so I’d urge shoppers to go online and show their support for their favourite and they could also win a £250 intu Gift Card for voting.”
