Newcastle Racecourse has announced that it will play host to legendary North East folk rock band Lindisfarne on Saturday, June 06, which will be the first North East outing for the band’s new line-up.

The Gosforth Park venue is delighted to exclusively announce that original founding member Rod Clements is re-joining Lindisfarne as part of this new line-up.

Tickets are now on sale to see the six-piece band, which has been singing itself into North East cultural history since the early 1970s, take to the stage at the racecourse where they will perform classic hits from their back catalogue including their breakthrough Meet Me On The Corner (penned by newly-returned founder member Rod Clements), Lady Eleanor and Run For Home (all Top 10 hits) as well as their classic Tyneside anthems We Can Swing Together and Fog On The Tyne.  The band has enjoyed much success over the decades and notably went to number one with the year’s best-selling album Fog on the Tyne in 1972.

The performance will be the first North East appearance for the band’s new line up which comprises long-time members Dave Hull-Denholm, Steve Daggett, Charlie Harcourt and Ian Thomson with former Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson, and now their latest ‘new recruit’; founding member Rod Clements, who has re-joined following Ray Jackson’s retirement.

Commenting on re-joining the line-up and the planned performance at Newcastle Racecourse, Clements commented:

“I’m delighted to have been asked to join this line-up of great musicians.  Playing live music is where my heart is, and I’m looking forward to being part of Lindisfarne’s future. The band have of course been long associated with Christmas at Newcastle City Hall, but performing at this great summer event will be a reminder that Lindisfarne is really a band for all seasons.”

David Williamson, executive director at Newcastle Racecourse said the concert was a real coup for the venue:  “It’s fantastic to have secured Lindisfarne to perform live after racing on 06 June.  The people of the North East have always taken this band to heart, so we’re delighted that they are going to showcase their new line up here at Gosforth Park.  They always put on a great show featuring classic hits like Run from Home and Fog on the Tyne, which I’m sure will get people singing along and soaking up the atmosphere.  With a packed evening of top-class racing taking place beforehand it’s going to be a great event for people to come out to enjoy and kickstart their summer.”

Tickets for the June 06 raceday followed by the Lindisfarne concert are priced at £30 for the Premier enclosure and £20 for Grandstand and can be purchased by contacting  Newcastle Racecourse on 0191 236 2020 or by visiting www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk.
