NE1’S NEWCASTLE FASHION WEEK – PROGRAMME DIARY

The dates have been set and the diary is now crammed with 7 days of major fashion events during NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week from Saturday 11 to 17 May 2013.

Even before the week kicks off there are a series of pre-fashion week events to get you in the mood:

ELECTRIK SHEEP DESIGN NE1’S NEWCASTLE FASHION WEEK T-SHIRT
From 1 May
The only T-shirt to be seen in during this year’s event is the limited edition NE1’S Newcastle Fashion Week Tee designed by Electrik Sheep.  On sale exclusively at Fenwick from 1 May for £10, the T-shirts are expected to sell out fast with all profits from the sales going to Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids.  The T-shirts will also be available to buy from the Cash for Kids stall at NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Weekend.

Newcastle’s Most Stylish
11 April – 11May
The north’s most popular street style search is back.  NE1’s street team and photographer will be out in force on the streets of Newcastle snapping the city’s most stylish.  The entries will be uploaded to NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week Facebook page with the public encouraged to vote for their favourites.

Prizes galore will be on offer for the winners including a weekend loan of a Mercedes Benz SLK class sports car, donated by this year’s sponsors, Mercedes Benz Newcastle plus a £250 Champagne Shopping Spree at Cruise together with a whole host of VIP goodies.

Generations of Style
Up to 1 May
A new addition to NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week calendar is the search for Newcastle’s most retro-stylish.  NE1 has teamed up with Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums and Newcastle City Library

and together are asking people to upload a photo of a friend, family member or themselves in a style from yesteryear. So, if you cut a dash in a pre-90s decade, upload your shots for your chance to win a host of goodies.  Prizes include a weekend of luxury driving courtesy of event sponsors, Mercedes Benz Newcastle who are giving a Mercedes SLK-Class convertible on loan for a weekend together with a £250 Champagne Shopping  Spree at Cruise.

The Top five entries will be exhibited during NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week in Newcastle City Library where the public can vote for the winner.

THE FASHION WEEK

FRIDAY 10 MAY, 7PM

MERCEDES BENZ CAR BOOTIQUE
NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week gets off to a luxurious start at this year’s sponsors, Mercedes Benz Newcastle.  The showroom will be transformed into a catwalk for a live catwalk show from designer retailer, Cruise.

VIP guests and the city’s fashion elite will gather for drinks and canapés courtesy of luxury bar, Livello.

NE1 will also be lifting the lid on the city’s first Car Bootique showcasing a range of luxury brands stylishly presented in the boots of the new Mercedes Benz A-class.  It is the only ticket fashionistas want to get – invite only.  When the fashion festivities are over, the invited guests will be chauffeured from the event to the Livello bar, where they will toast the success of the North’s biggest fashion event starting the next day on 11 May.

NE1’s first ever NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Weekend kicks off the week in style.  Newcastle’s answer to the Clothes Show Live, a weekend filled with all things fashion and an event not to be missed.  One of the premier events in the week-long calendar, NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Weekend will set the tone for the rest of the week with the largest event dedicated to fashion that Newcastle has ever hosted.

Anyone with a passion for fashion will be in their element with 2 days filled with catwalks, demonstrations, talks, celebrity guests, designer clothes, shopping, stalls and much more.  Champagne stands and cupcake stalls will fuel the fashionista’s day with model scouts mingling with the crowds.

A Zen Den will provide luxurious pampering to set you up before embarking on more shopping, celeb spotting and bargain hunting.

Celebrity guests are being lined up for presenter duties on both days – so monitor the www.getintonewcastle.co.uk for regular updates.

Entry is free for 2 hours of fashion-packed frivolities combining the city’s first ever sample sale from designer boutique, Van Mildert and an incredible lunchtime of pampering, manicures and shopping all enjoyed to musical accompaniment from Metro Radio DJs.

Queues are expected around the block with people clamouring for the unprecedented discounts of up to 50% off designer brands including By Malene Birger, Marc By Marc Jacobs and young fashion brands like Sam Edelman, Vero Moda, French Connection and many more.

VIP tickets are available at £20, on a first come first served basis, which provide a 2 course luxury Asian-fusion lunch, premier catwalk seating and Queue jumping – as VIP ticket holders will be first through the doors.

Northumbria University Graduate Fashion Show Baltic
Northumbria University’s Graduate Fashion show returns to its adopted home at The Baltic for the fourth year running for the major milestone event in NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week Calendar. This year, Northumbria is making the event even bigger with an additional show and fashion exhibition.

Wednesday 15 May
Fashion Front Row
As You Like It
The spotlight is turned on the north east’s fashion and delight talent with another staple in the NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week calendar, the Fashion Front Row catwalk show at As You Like It.  This year, the event will be presented by the uber glamorous, Northern style icon, Donna Air with her sister, Francesca presenting her latest collection on the catwalk alongside some of the region’s hottest new designers.

Thursday 16 May
Eldon Square Catwalk

Friday 17 May
The Royal Wedding
To celebrate the last day of a 7day extravaganza – Newcastle will host its own Royal Wedding.  A bridal fashion show at the city’s ultimate luxury wedding venue, the Theatre Royal.  The sumptuous surroundings of the theatre will be used to maximum effect with models in bride gowns sweeping down the Upper Circle staircase.  Fashions for bridesmaids, grooms and guests will be paraded on what has to be one of the grandest catwalks Newcastle has to offer and with places free and limited to 100 would-be brides will be clamouring to attend the event.

FRINGE EVENTS

As well as the major milestone events happening each day during the week, there will be a packed programme of Fringe Event at venues across Newcastle City Centre.
