Three of the North East’s funniest TV stars are reuniting in aid of one of the region’s leading charities.
Comedians Chris Ramsey, Jason Cook and Steffen Peddie, who starred together in BBC2 show Hebburn, will all be performing at the Foundation of Light’s Variety Night at the Sunderland Empire theatre on Thursday July 3.
The special event, raising funds for the charity’s wide range of sport and education-based programmes, will also feature a host of other well-known stars from stage and screen, with a full line-up expected to be announced later this month.
Lesley Spuhler, Chief Executive for the Foundation of Light, said: “The Variety Night will be one of the biggest events the Foundation of Light has ever hosted and we’re delighted to announce Chris, Jason and Steffen as the first acts in our star-studded line-up, with more big names to follow soon.”
Chris Ramsey, who is currently on a nationwide stand-up tour, is a familiar face around the UK thanks to regular appearances on a wide range of panel shows, including ITV2’s Celebrity Juice.
The 27 year-old, from South Shields, starred in two series of Hebburn, along with Steffen Peddie and the show’s writer, comedian and actor Jason Cook.
The trio will be reuniting backstage at the Foundation of Light’s Variety Night, where they will each perform an individual stand up set.
Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund the Foundation of Light’s wide range of free courses, benefitting more than 42,000 people every year – and bosses at the Sunderland Empire are already helping to boost this total by allowing the charity to use the venue free of charge.
Ben Phillips, General Manager at the Sunderland Empire, said: “The Foundation of Light is an amazing charity and were thrilled to be able to offer free use of the Sunderland Empire for its Variety Night event. We would like to wish everyone involved the best of luck and I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing evening.”
