Collabor-nation
Every 3 months, Collabor-nation brings together 3 top quality singer-songwriters, who then contribute to each other’s music for one very special, unique night. Expect a warm, intimate evening of songs you will not forget. Variety, top musicianship and songs straight from the soul.
Location: The Butterfly Cabinet in Heaton.
The last Show: Was on Fri 6th July. It featured Jen Stevens and the Hiccups full band, Stacey Swanson and a recent formation called Northern Collective (which consists of James Clarke from My Other life and 2 female vocalists, Kim and Ash). The first show was a keys extravaganza – featuring a real acoustic piano delivered and tuned on site. The first show sold out quickly and had a really good energetic and interactive vibe,

Rehearsals
Each act is required to attend 3 rehearsals prior to the show. bringing 3 of their 8 songs to the table for everyone else to get in on.
JC’s idea
I had seen a gig by a wonderful band called “This is the Kit” at the Butterfly Cabinet and ever since then wanted to showcase my songs in that environment, a place where people really listen to the music. I started to think about how many amazing bands there are in the Northeast that I love and would love to jam with. I wanted to see what would happen if I got 2 or 3 acts together in the same rehearsal space to combine efforts and share ideas. What would happen if I combined bands together, how would it sound? I wanted to give the audience something different, some variety whilst at the same time offering an exciting challenge to the artists. There’s a huge amount of real musical talent here in the Northeast and I’m delighted at the positive response from artists wanting to get involved. Although Collabor-nation is acoustic and intimate, we keep it upbeat, interactive and entertaining
Collabor-nation future plans
Next show is Fri Nov 2nd – artists confirmed are Charlotte Yanni, Paul Liddell and My Other Life
I have plans to do a “Best Of” Collabor-nation night further down the line. A bigger ambition of mine is to make Collabor-nation the album, and keep releasing them as we do more shows. I think it’s really important to capture a sound that’s been created especially for that one night and might not ever be repeated again. Getting it down in the studio will make it timeless. I am hoping these nights continue to be a success and I’m already thinking of other special venues that will work well with Collabor-nation.
