STOCKTON TO HOST A FEAST OF LITERARY FUN FOR CHILDREN

STOCKTON will be home to the 2012 Northern Children’s Book Festival Gala Day giving thousands of youngsters the chance to meet famous authors and illustrators.

The event is organised by Stockton Council’s Library Service and the theme for this year’s day is time travel and there will be some very special visitors from outer space mingling in the crowds.

Preston Hall Museum & Grounds is the venue for the literary extravaganza on Saturday, 24 November from 9.30am until 4.30pm.

Twelve authors will hold entertaining sessions for children of all ages throughout the day and there will be activity craft stalls and Funky Feet activity for the whole family.

The fantastic line-up includes award-winning author Vivian French; illustrator Paul Hess; Stockton ‘s own Sally Nicholls and festival favourite Paul Cookson.

Tickets are available for sale from Monday, 22 October and are available from the Visitor Information Centre at 134 Stockton High Street . All ticketed sessions cost £1 per person, per session and tickets must be purchased for each accompanying adult. The ticket is a redeemable voucher against a book of choice from the festival bookshop on the day.

Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “The joy that reading can bring to children cannot be underestimated and introducing them to the benefits of books at an early age is a wonderful thing.

“The Gala Day will be a fantastic occasion and the setting of Preston Hall will be an added attraction for visitors who will be able to step back in time and enjoy the Victorian Street .”
