Local singers Channy Thompson 21, and Ellie Watkinson aged 12, have their sights set on the states.
Both girls who are tied together through friends, are now working together during the next few months, on various events and gigs across the region to help fund their American working visas.
Both girls were scouted by agents on a program called ‘Talent Inc’ Channy received 9 call backs at her showcase in Orlando Florida back in 2014, and Ellie participated in the UK showcase in Brighton, receiving interest from US agents who travelled over for the event.
Channy is a singer/songwriter from the west end of Newcastle who over the past year and a half has worked solidly to build a foundation for her music. With connections in all the right places, Channy has supported X-Factors Jake Quickenden and Lucy Spraggan, she performs regularly in events for Metro Radio and has recently performed live on Alan Robson Night Owls Radio Station.
To add to that Channy has impressively entered five music competitions and reached all five grand finals, performing in venues such as the O2 Arena London and the NEC Arena Birmingham. Channy has a string of fantastic events lined up for 2015, alongside some headline names within the industry!
Ellie is a local performer from Gateshead and at the tender age of 12, Ellie is working hard on all aspects of performing. With particular focus on dancing and singing, Ellie attends dance classes several times a week and has participated in workshops with Britain’s Got Talent’s Twist and Pulse and Lukas McFarlane. Ellie sang at a local gig recently at the Porter’s in Tynemouth and also danced on the stage at the O2 Academy, Newcastle. Ellie is currently preparing for Teenstar, a national music Competition, whilst rehearsing for her role in theatre production Peter Pan, and practising for her dance shows!
Outside of their individual work, the girls are pulling together a family fundraiser on Saturday the 30th May at Rutherford Football Club, a dance and talent showcase on Saturday the 4th July at the Tyne Theatre, with the help of Channy’s promoter Lindsay and Ellie’s mam Lianne!
Channy says; ‘America has always been a goal of mine, as a young girl I always seen myself working over there, pursuing my love for music, and the arts in general. It’s the City that never sleeps, and it’s bursting with opportunities!
Ellie continues; it’s such an exciting time! Not many 12 year olds get an opportunity like this, it could change my life. I’m so grateful! I can’t wait to get out there!
With the future looking bright, the American trip sees Channy’s aspirations head towards Broadway, with Ellie starting out with her sights on Commercial Modelling!
