The £7m transformation of Preston Park Museum & Grounds into the spectacular centre piece of Stockton Borough’s cultural landscape will be completed with a specially-commissioned 3D film projected on to the Museum’s exterior on Wednesday evening, 13 March 2013.
This night will be a celebration of the two-year programme of refurbishment and redevelopment which has created a visitor attraction welcoming over 100,000 visitors since opening its doors last summer.
The projection, an animation centred around the Hall and its hidden secrets is entitled Lustre and has been created by Novak Collective. It will show a range of artifacts from the collection in a new light, as well as exploring the history of the Grade II listed museum and 110 acre park.
Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture said: “Preston Park Museum & Grounds really is the jewel in our crown. It now has something for everyone from children who enjoy the grounds and play area to visitors who want to see all of the wonderful exhibits we have on display. This special evening of celebration is a highlight in our calendar and we are particularly delighted the Chief Executive of the Arts Council Alan Davey is able to join us.”
The public are welcome to attend the event which is free but ticketed. For safety reasons ticket numbers are strictly limited to 1,000 and are available from Preston Park and the Rediscover shop in Stockton High Street on a first come, first served basis. One ticket is needed per person.
The 15 minute film will start at 7pm and be shown again at 7.45pm. Gates to the event will open at 5.30pm.
The restored Preston Park Museum now incorporates a complete redisplay of the wide and varied collection, an activity filled Victorian Street and the development of a traditional walled kitchen garden and orchard. On the evening the Museum will not be open to the public but the park toilets and Café Tees will be open.
The development of the Museum was funded in partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund and Stockton Borough Council.
