THE Prince of Wales will take a tour of Nissan next week as he is given an insight into its new electric vehicles.
The Prince will join boxing star Amir Khan during his visit to the region on Tuesday as they discover the work the car firm is doing to produce the nissan LEAF and the batteries used to power them.
They will also see how it is creating career opportunities for young people at its Global Training Centre.
He will meet children from Gillas Lane Primary in Houghton and Venerable Bede School in Sunderland as they take part in education activities at the complex, while the Industrial Cadets, who take part in a scheme inspired by the Prince, will also be working on a project.
The Prince will then visit the National Citizen Service (NCS) at the Bethany City Church at Bede Tower, as part of his support for the Step Up To Serve programme, which he launched in November 2013.
The project, along with the #iwill campaign, aims to increase the number of 15 to 17-year-olds involved in volunteering, fund-raising and campaigning with the help of community groups and companies.
The Prince and Mr Khan will see a series of activities carried out by NCS graduates and others.
The event will also include a Dragon’s Den-style pitch for graduates to secure funding for a community project, with Mr Khan sitting on the panel as a Dragon.
Mr Khan will take part in a technology lesson for the elderly, where he will see a demonstration on how to send a tweet among the activities to run during the day.
