FOOD, fitness and fun returns to Stockton High Street as Stockton Council hosts its second ‘Health’ specialist market.

From 10am to 4pm on Friday, 31 May, Stockton High Street will come alive with a host of fun activities for the whole family along with information to help improve health, fitness and wellbeing.

There will be lots to do on the day for both adults and children. Watch a range of delicious, healthy and budget-conscious food being prepared in the demonstration kitchen and enjoy a sample of the chef’s culinary creations.

Dig in at the gardening stall and find out information and guidance on growing your own food with Tees Wildlife Trust. Get the kids joining in a range of fun activities including making their own ‘bursting with health’ fruit kebabs or trying out their skills on the climbing wall.

Try your hand at Zumba or get tips on complementary therapies, learn about massage or how to improve your posture and general fitness.

There will be advice on stopping smoking from NHS Stop Smoking Service as well as a cancer roadshow where you can find out how to prevent cancer as well as seek advice on any of your worries or concerns.

With information on hand from a range of health and wellbeing organisations such as Seven Wellbeing Centre (Butterwick), NHS, George Hardwick Foundation, SpiriFit, SureStart, Tees Wildlife Trust and More Life you will be able to speak to health professionals and pick up a wide range of leaflets and information.

Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “We received a lot of great feedback from the first Health market and so it’s great to see its return as part of the lively and interesting programme of specialist markets coming to the Town Centre over coming months.

“The specialist markets really do boost visitors and shoppers into the town and build on what the popular weekly market has to offer.”

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said: “There is so much you can do to help and improve your own health and that of your family.

“The health market is intended to provide young and old with an opportunity to have fun and found out more about looking after their own health, now and into the future. We hope to see you there!”

The specialist Health market is part of the Council’s work to support the expansion of all markets in Stockton Town Centre as part of its multi-million programme to regenerate the High Street.
