Stockton Voted Highly For Business In National League

Stockton on Tees is second in the country for having the best environment and infrastructure for businesses according to a survey of all 325 local authority areas in England.

The survey, published on 14 February and undertaken by Local Futures in partnership with the specialist publication, MJ, based it assessment on five key things including quality of life, commercial floor space  growth in commercial and industrial floor space, connectivity and cost base.

Councillor Bob Cook, leader, Stockton Council said: “We are delighted to be judged one of the top locations in the country for business by this prestigious journal.

“With our partners at Tees Valley Unlimited and the previous work of the Stockton Middlesbrough Initiative, we have built up a first class investment track record.  At present we have a substantial number of blue chip companies investing in their bases here and creating a substantial number of jobs.

For example businesses like Darchem are building a £8m additional precision manufacturing base in Stillington.   Nifco moved into a £19m factory last year and has now outgrown it and is building a second one, creating 170 jobs.  We also have a new power plant being built by Air Products with a £320m investment at Billingham.

“Investment has come from all around the globe as well with Japan ’s Fujifilm Diossynth Biotechnologies investing in new manufacturing infrastructure at its Billingham site.  Companies are not only choosing to establish operations here, they are expanding their businesses and showing their commitment to being in Stockton .”

Stockton has a well-developed green infrastructure strategy which has helped attract businesses based along the banks of the River Tees as well as high business parks, with open green areas around the premises and easy access to both coast and country locations.

It is also well-placed with close proximity to the main trunk road the A19 and the A1M as well as the Durham Tees Valley airport and the major Tees port.

Well done Stockton!!!
