Sunderland graduate Lara Clarke has done it again and Won Gold at Cake International 2014 with her life-size 5ft 11 inch cake of Hunger Games Film Star Jennifer Lawrence.
Lara, 28, who graduated from Sunderland University in performing arts now lives in Walsall and runs her baking business. In 2013 Lara also won Gold with a cake version of Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow (Jonny Deep).
This year she decided to go one step further and enter TWO cakes in her category. Being a huge fan of The Hunger Games Movies Lara picked character Katniess Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) to be her first cake and her second was Games of thrones character Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). The two amazing cakes won Gold and Silver respectively.
Lara’s fantastic talent has resulted in creating life-like cakes for This Morning TV Presenters Phil Schofield and Holly Willoughby, chat show host Paul O’Grady.
Her inspiration of creating life-sized cakes came from American TV shows like Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes.
She spent two-and-a-half months working on the cakes for the Cake International competition, held at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre last weekend.
Lara on why she choose The Hunger Games character “I had a look and realized the third film was to be released the week after the competition, so thought it would be a perfect tribute.”
“I had a look and realized the third film was to be released the week after the competition, so thought it would be a perfect tribute,” she said
The Jennifer Lawrence sponge cake required 150 eggs, 10kg (22lb) flour and 10kg butter, and took around 170 hours to build.
“[There are] no special ingredients and because of the structures I use, you can make it from any kind of cake you like,” Clarke said.
News of the cake has already reached Jennifer Lawrence who was very impressed!
Her Tyrion Lannister cake took about 250 hours over three months to make.
Now Lara is now looking for her next challenge! We wonder what it will be?
