The Blades Return

Now in their ninth display season with a fresh new look and a breath-taking aerobatics and thrilling new manoeuvres. The Blades display lasts for 15 minutes and includes over 30 exhilarating manoeuvres, containing a variety of mind-blowing aerobatic stunts flown just feet apart.

This year, The Blades are once again flying under the leadership of Blade 1, Mark Cutmore ‘Cutty’. Joining The Blades in 2008 as Blade 3. Cutty then spent three years as the Team’s solo display pilot before taking over as leader in 2012.

Team Leader “Cutty” said: “As always, we’re really looking forward to returning to display at Sunderland this year. It’s a fantastic display site and the fact that so many people from all over the North East come along and watch makes it really special. We’re one of the very few display teams that’s allowed to arrive into a show over the heads of the crowd and it is a truly amazing sight as you fly in to see so many people lined up along the seafront. We have a different opening to the show for 2014 so we’re hoping that the crowds in Sunderland are going to enjoy it!”

Airshow Director Sue Stanhope added: “Every year we aim  to deliver a fun-filled weekend of entertainment, both in the air and on the ground.

This year will be no exception. With fantastic ground displays, children’s activities, live music, fairgrounds and fireworks it promises to be a great three-day event that caters for all.”
