Success! Sunderland’s R.E. Ambassadors have won a national competition to present their thoughts and findings to Members of Parliament in Westminster later this month!
The 5 young people, all from Venerable Bede CE Academy, consulted with people from across Wearside on their big question:
“Why should we learn about each other’s beliefs and values?”
Now the year 9 students (Adam, Angelo, Gillian, Kimberley and Ryan) would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in their survey via the academy’s website.
R.E. Teacher David Johnson is working alongside the students and said, “’The Young Ambassadors have now realised that they can compete and win against other schools from across the country and really appreciate all of the support they have received locally.”
The group are currently preparing for their ‘all expenses paid’ visit to the House of Commons, on Monday 24th June. “The next step will be really exciting for them,” said Mrs. Booth, Head Teacher. “Walking the corridors of power and debating with Members of Parliament will be an experience they will never forget.”
The national selection of R.E. Ambassadors and competition to meet MPs was organised by Sarah Smalley at the Religious Education Council. Sarah’s positive comments to Venerable Bede included: “We were very impressed by what they had achieved and would like to congratulate them on being chosen as one of the most successful teams.”
