SPARK ECOMMERCE GROUP TO SUPPORT COMIC RELIEF

Spark eCommerce Group, one of the country’s leading contact centre, fulfilment and eCommerce specialists, is to play a vital supporting role in this year’s Comic Relief.

It comes after the Gateshead-based company fielded calls during last year’s Sport Relief telethon, taking donations from the public in excess of £44,000. The five-hour event, which involved a host of celebrities, comedy sketches and live performances, raised more than £52m for charities nationally and overseas.

Dozens of Spark’s employees will give up their free time to man the phones during the BBC spectacular on Friday, March 15, while the company will also hold its own themed events to raise money for the charity.

Peter Slee, Managing Director of the Spark eCommerce Group, said: Our participation in last year’s Sport Relief was a massive success and great fun for everyone who was involved. It really demonstrated what a strong team we have in place here as some 90 members of staff and their families gave up their Friday evening to man the phones and we all pulled together to ensure it ran smoothly.

“And the fact we’ve been chosen as one of the contact centres to field calls for Comic Relief 2013 is proof of our capabilities when it comes to supporting large-scale events whilst at the same time maintaining the incredibly high standards we have in place here.

“I have to say we’re all really looking forward to it. There’s a buzz around the place as we gear up for the event and lots of people have put their names forward to be involved which is what we want. And I’m sure this year we’ll take even more in donations from the public than we did last year.”

Supporting local and national charities is a priority for Spark eCommerce Group. Last year, as well as involvement in Sport Relief, it also helped raise more than £11,000 for the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle and Houghton-le-Spring based bereavement charity 4Louis, while 2013’s chosen beneficiaries are Tyneside Mind and Gateshead Cross Roads.

This year’s Comic Relief event will be broadcast live on the BBC and will once again feature celebrities from the world of music, TV, film and sport.
