Initiative to promote manufacturing jobs in North East
NAC group have recently worked with a leading digital media agency, Three Motion, to help to present the successes and the opportunities created through their ‘Manufacturing Smart Programme’ initiative with Nissan and a number of other major supply chain businesses in the region.
With the North East being one of the leading areas for high-value engineering (HVE) in the UK, ensuring the region is able to attract and train new production operatives is essential. NAC group’s Paul Robson has spent many years developing initiatives which really make a difference to long-term unemployed individuals keen to learn, engage with employers and get back to work.
Gavin Knights of Three Motion explained “The initiative designed by Paul’s team and delivered at their training centres really is ground breaking. ‘Smartclubs’ have created real opportunities for many who have been unable to work for a whole range of reasons. Meeting learners and workers, individuals who through the training they received with NAC, are now employed, has been a real eye opener. The genuine difference made to the lives of those touched by the programme and even more inspiring the difference made to their families has been staggering. In interviewing learners, we have discovered poignant, very real stories demonstrating the positive power of work.
Seeing pride building in learners as they go through training and then move to line tests and hopefully into full-time employment is very special to witness, and we feel very lucky to be able to share some great stories, encourage more learners to sign up and get on board.
We know also that talking to senior executives at employers involved in the project, including Nissan, will encourage other forward facing organisations to give a chance to those they would probably pass by without the support of the NAC team.
NAC are taking the concept to other areas including Liverpool, London and Birmingham. We hope that our work, including the invention of ‘Si’ an animated champion representing learners will help engagement levels and support the continued success of the group’s work.”
