Sunderland Empire announces their 2016 Charity

Sunderland Empire are delighted to announce that collections are now under way for their 2016 Charity of the Year – Centrepoint, Sunderland.

After a successful 2015 collecting for NSPCC Sunderland, the theatre are urging theatregoers to continue this generosity for Centrepoint, Sunderland at bucket collections throughout 2016 which will see a range of West End spectaculars hitting the stage including show stopping performances from The Rocky Horror Show, Billy Elliot the Musical and Sunny Afternoon.

Centrepoint, which has been supporting people in the North East for 15 years, supported 420 homeless young people in Sunderland in the last 12 months. The charity provides not only a safe place to stay, but also vital help in tackling physical and mental health problems caused by homelessness and support in finding a job or a route back into education.

Amy Gormanley, Senior Fundraising Officer at Centrepoint, said: “We’re delighted to be Sunderland Empires ‘charity of the year’. Our work with vulnerable young people in Sunderland has shown us the central role the local community plays in tackling youth homelessness.

“The money raised help Centrepoint provide more than just a bed, but also help addressing health problems and dramatically improving their chances of moving into employment or education. We would like to thank the public and everyone at Sunderland Empire for acting to fight youth homelessness.”

We would like to thank our patrons for the substantial generosity they have shown to charity collections over the years and I’m sure this will continue with such a worthy cause.”
