Northumberland National Park is transforming Walltown Quarry Picnic Site into a giant adventure playground to celebrate National Parks Week from 30th July to 1st August.

There are six exciting, family-friendly activities to take part in this year. Why not try your Robin Hood skills at the archery range, or show off your culinary skills by making your own pizza in a clay oven using some foraged foods. Get wet and wild by canoeing on Quarry Lake and discover your bushcraft skills to help you survive in a Landscape of Plenty. You can meet stone-age people & make your own clay beaker, and take part in a thrilling round of Disc Golf – like real golf but with frisbees & far less serious! There is also the return of the 200 metre Zipwire challenge for the three-day event.

There are also plenty of free activities available at the event. Families can discover the secrets of Walltown with an exciting archaeological treasure hunt; get a different viewpoint from the Camera Obscura, try out Circus Skills and visit the tranquil Peace Labyrinth.  There are also a range of free guided walks taking place during National Parks Week. You will also be able to meet some of the award-winning Northumberland based Barnacre Alpacas and buy some wonderful products made from 100% Alpaca yarn.

Mandy Roberts, Engagement Officer for the Northumberland National Park Authority said:

“It’s our favourite time of year again! Walltown is transformed into a gigantic playground where all the family can get involved. My best memory of last year is a group of dads hula hooping with their toddlers – truly something for everyone. Come and join in!”

Tony Gates, Chief Executive of Northumberland National Park Authority, said: “We have one of the country’s very finest landscapes right here in Northumberland and National Parks Week is a fantastic opportunity to come along and experience the thrill of the great outdoors.”

“Our theme this year is Landscapes of Plenty – and that’s certainly true of Northumberland National Park with its delicious locally-produced food and drink, rich natural and cultural heritage, and its proud tradition of music and artistry. We unashamedly want to get more young people and families engaged in experiencing national parks, so whether you’re a regular visitor or someone who has never been to a National Park before, come and join us for a taste of just what it is that makes Northumberland National Park so special.”

The activities at Walltown will run from 10am until 5pm over each of the three days.

You can book advance tickets online for a block of 10 tickets to use for any of the above activities, adult or child, for just £25, a 50% discount. For more information and to book your tickets please visit – http://bit.ly/nationalparksweek
